William Pierce: A Birthday Remembrance

pierce_mountain_meadow

An address given at the commemoration of the 83rd birthday of William Luther Pierce; The Land, September 2016

by Kevin Alfred Strom

LET US recite our Cosmotheist Affirmation:

There is but one reality.
That reality is the Whole.
It is the Creator, the self-created.
I am of the Whole.
I am of the Creator, of the self-created.
My purpose is the Creator’s purpose.
My path is the path of the Creator’s self-realization.
My path is the path of divine consciousness.
My destiny is godhood.

We are here to celebrate the birth of the man who first spoke those words 42 years ago — the man who brought into being this real-world intentional White community, which he called The Land — the man who 30 years ago consecrated this very building to the cosmic purpose symbolized by the Life Rune on its northern face — a man who will be remembered as a teacher, prophet, and the founder of the religion of the future — Dr. William Luther Pierce.

I Remember Dr. Pierce

INTRODUCTION, 2016: On William Pierce’s 83rd birthday, I want to honor his memory by republishing this essay of my remembrances of him — which in my opinion, whatever it may be worth, is some of my best work. Since I wrote this piece just four short years ago, much has happened.

The unworthy souls who never understood Dr. Pierce relinquished control of the National Alliance in 2014, and the board then named a prominent Piercian — William W. Williams, Dr. Pierce’s right-hand man and his choice as first National Membership Coordinator — as the new Chairman. Will Williams is a man of integrity, competence, courage, and grit whom I’ve known for going on three decades. He is also Erich Gliebe’s greatest and most persistent critic since 2002.

I think that, more than any other one thing, William Pierce left the city and began his community in the countryside of West Virginia because he felt a spiritual need to be close to Nature and far away from corruption and ugliness.

He also believed 1) that others would grow, personally and ideologically and spiritually, if they committed themselves to live in an explicitly racialist and Cosmotheist community; 2) that a real community would take root and grow, perhaps even to the size of a largely self-sustaining village in his lifetime; 3) that the potential for persecution by the System was at least somewhat reduced by distance and difficulty of access.

I have high hopes that the lessons learned since 1985 will help us move forward on a more solid basis.

I think in my article that I failed to emphasize how much hard work over many long years that Fred Streed contributed to make everything possible there. His hours and his dedication were second to no one’s except William Pierce’s. He made many of Dr. Pierce’s ideas into real, concrete accomplishments — and freed up our founder’s time for innumerable other accomplishments. — K.A.S.

HIS FOOTPATH TO THE HEIGHTS is almost invisible now, overgrown with timothy grass and mountain laurel, tenanted by bees heavy with nectar and pollen instead of by a man heavy with the future.

Morning after morning, for almost two decades, William Luther Pierce would take this path and ascend to the highest point on what he simply called “The Land.” At the summit, he would look out, all the way to the horizon, upon a creamy, ever-shifting ocean of fog from which the higher mountain peaks, especially his, jutted upward abruptly like widely-separated cliff-islands in some Hyperborea of dreams.

A Forest Hymn

This great 19th-century poem of Nature-mysticism contains intimations of Cosmotheism.

by William Cullen Bryant, 1824

THE GROVES were God’s first temples. Ere man learned
To hew the shaft, and lay the architrave,
And spread the roof above them, — ere he framed
The lofty vault, to gather and roll back
The sound of anthems; in the darkling wood,
Amidst the cool and silence, he knelt down,
And offered to the Mightiest solemn thanks
And supplication. For his simple heart
Might not resist the sacred influences,

Cosmotheist Ethics

Stars

by Dr. William L. Pierce

THE PERSONAL CONDUCT of those who strive to follow the One Path is based on three foundations: Knowledge, Discipline, and Service.

First comes knowledge — an understanding of the nature of man, of his relationship to the Whole, and of his purpose. Then must come action based on that understanding; we must put our knowledge to work. We must let it direct us in our daily lives, so that we live in accord with our ordained purpose, so that we serve the ends intended for us by the Creator.

Knowledge is our guide, and service is our object, but discipline gives us the indispensable means. Discipline allows us to actualize the potential strength which our knowledge gives us. Without discipline, our knowledge will remain sterile, our actions weak and ineffectual.

Fred Streed: A Cosmotheist Dialogue

galaxy_eternity

Introduction by William White Williams: “In 1978 a group of members who were especially interested in the religious or spiritual aspects of the National Alliance’s work organized the Cosmotheist Community Church.” That sentence from page 17 of the 1993 edition of William Pierce’s National Alliance Membership Handbook was removed in the 2005 edition — along with several other crucial passages, including pages 46-51, which described Christianity as an opposed ideology.

Additionally, entire paragraphs were removed from the section on general principles of National Alliance ideology and were replaced by a watered-down section on religion (p. 24), which stated, “Our membership consists of a variety of beliefs. A member may be very religious or very non-religious.”

Why did Erich Gliebe and Shaun Walker decide to remove those sections?

Gliebe and Walker made a mess of the Alliance Handbook because they wanted a “bigger tent”; they wanted to make the Alliance “Christian-friendly” in hopes — vain hopes, as it turned out — that more Christians would join us because they’d no longer be offended by the fundamentally Cosmotheist underpinnings of Alliance ideology. Cosmotheism is the philosophy that undergirds all of the Alliance’s ideals and undertakings — and it is absolutely incompatible with a Semitic religion that worships the Jews’ tribal god.

One of William Pierce’s closest friends and long-term associates, Mr. Fred Streed, was in charge of the infrastructure and physical plant at the National Office for 11 years — not to mention that he was appointed by Dr. Pierce to be president of the National Alliance Board of Directors. Mr. Streed’s understanding of Alliance ideology is unquestioned, and he has steadfastly maintained that the Alliance should never compromise its Cosmotheist roots. Recently, Mr. Streed engaged in a very valuable dialogue on Cosmotheism with a number of critics and questioners, which we’re proud to share with you this month.

Awakenings

500-3American Dissident Voices broadcast of March 14, 2015

by Kevin Alfred Strom (pictured)

THE IDEA of “awakening the people” is a perennial chestnut of pro-American and pro-White political efforts — from paleoconservative Birchers to racialists of almost every stripe. “Awaken the American people” or “awaken White people” to their peril, and all will follow from that.

Our people slumber amidst a haze of media lies — so certainly awakening is necessary. But, equally certainly, all does not follow from that. The proper foundation has not been laid. The people themselves are deeply corrupted and deeply compromised — and have been for centuries. The foundation they once had, decades ago, was pretty poor to begin with — and has now been uprooted and all but destroyed. “The people” are, for the most part, totally incapable of drawing the necessary conclusions and taking the right course of action — even when presented with the relevant facts.

Out of the Darkness

by Dr. William L. Pierce

National Alliance General Convention, 1983; recorded and transcribed by Kevin Alfred Strom

TWO THOUSAND years ago the poet Ovid wrote that night is a sadder time than day. I know that’s always been true for me. When discouraging thoughts come, it’s usually at night.

Actually, I’m pretty cheerful most of the time. But it used to be that, occasionally, when I was working alone in the National Office late at night, a black thought would come into my mind — always the same thought. It was that there’s not enough time to do what I must do. It was that something will happen to me before the Alliance is strong enough to survive and continue growing without me.

What is Right and What is Wrong

Life rune flag

American Dissident Voices broadcast of January 4, 2014

by Kevin Alfred Strom

EACH OF US has only a few years to live. At our conception, we awaken from a sleep that has lasted for millions of centuries. We walk this Earth for a few paltry years. We are nurtured by parents and family. We receive love. If we prove strong enough, we give love. If we do right, we find a mate, overcome whatever obstacles there may be, and leave descendants to carry on when we are gone. And we are gone soon enough — a handful of decades if we are lucky, and that is all. Then we sleep again, for billions of years, perhaps for infinity — except for that part of us that lives on in our descendants and in our kin.

And in that brief moment of waking life, bounded on both sides by what Raymond Chandler called “the big sleep,” we are faced with choices, many choices. What should we do with this, our moment on Earth? What should we avoid doing? What behavior, as social beings, should we reward? What behavior should we punish? These are questions of morality, of what is right and what is wrong.

Tomorrow’s Religion

WILLIAM LUTHER PIERCE, even eleven years after his death, has proven impossible to ignore. Despite his decade-long absence, he is inspiring an ever-growing number of White men and women who are rediscovering his ideas, talking about them, republishing his works, and beginning new institutions that will embody his ideals.

Discovering Cosmotheism

One-reality---Cosmotheism

How did William Pierce’s religion, Cosmotheism, begin? How did it develop? Robert Griffin asked Dr. Pierce these and other questions, and here are the answers.

an excerpt from The Fame of a Dead Man’s Deeds by Robert S. Griffin

DR. PIERCE TOLD ME that during the early 1970s he formulated a race-based religious orientation to provide the spiritual basis for the direction he was taking with the National Alliance. He needed a name for what he had put together, he said, and he came up with Cosmotheism. He’s not sure whether he ran across the term in an encyclopedia or made it up. One day when I was in his office with him in West Virginia, I asked him to help me understand what Cosmotheism was about. He rose from his desk and went to a file drawer and pulled out some pamphlets, sorted through them a bit, and then handed three of them to me. “You can look these over. I wrote them on Cosmotheism back in the late 1970s. They are going to sound a little naive, but here they are.”
