Thug, or a Million Murders by James L. Sleeman

It is estimated that at least one million Indians perished at the hands of Thugs, a hereditary cult dedicated to the goddess Kali, until the British Raj extirpated a menace to which corrupt native leaders had turned a blind eye for centuries. One man was principally responsible for the ending of the Thuggee – Major General Sir Henry Sleeman. This account of his endeavors is written by his grandson Colonel James Sleeman.
